Fluoride RMCL Deemed Appropriate
The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that the recommended maximum contaminant level (RMCL) of 4 mg fluoride per liter set by the US Environmental Protection Agency under the Safe Drinking Water Act was sufficiently low to prevent crippling skeletal fluorosis, even among susceptible individuals. The RMCL was challenged by a resource council and state health department claiming that the level was not low enough to prevent crippling skeletal fluorosis.
