Modeling Floors, Ceilings, and Roofs
Walls mostly rely on a linear path, while floors, ceilings, and roofs rely on a boundary sketch. As with walls, floor, ceiling, and roof object types are system families that use a built‐up set of layers that are applied to a sketched form. This chapter helps architects understand floor modeling methods and roof modeling methods; model various floor finishes; create ceilings; and work with advanced shape editing for floors and roofs. Floors are likely to be one of the first sketch‐based element types architects will encounter in Autodesk® Revit® software. Because floors, ceilings, and roofs are sketch‐based objects, the method architects use when creating the boundary lines is critical to the behavior of the element to those around it. In general, roofs can be constructed in four different ways: by footprint, by extrusion, modeled in place, and by face.
