Fracture Behavior of SiCw‐Reinforced Ceramic Composites
Hot pressed alumina and silicon nitride matrix composites reinforced with SiC whiskers were processed by turbomilling and pressure filtration. Improvements in strength and fracture toughness observed by this processing method are a result of reduction in flaw size and elimination of flaw sources characteristic of conventional processing. Microstructural evidence confirming these observations will be presented.
