This article discusses the acute need for training in the water industry, what AWWA offers in the form of training and education, and the huge gap between what is necessary and what is being done. The article briefly reviews the history of training within AWWA and the water industry, discusses programs currently offered, suggests methods for improving the quality and quantity of training, and stresses the benefits of well‐trained personnel.
