UHPFRC Development: Experience with Ductal® Over the Past Two Decades
This chapter gathers the experience developed since the mid‐90s covering the domains of heavy duty structures like bridges and footbridges, other structural applications, industrial uses and esthetic‐oriented applications. A new technology emerged with ultra high performance fiber‐reinforced concretes (UHPFRCs) that constitute a breakthrough in concrete mix design. The Ductal® family of products is characterized by a dense microstructure and high compressive strength achieving and possibly exceeding 200 MPa. Steel and organic fibers or a combination of both are one of the major components of the material enhancing the bending strength, the ductility and fire resistance. Three main categories of applications have been developed during the last two decades: structural applications, durability‐oriented applications, and architecturally‐oriented applications.
