The Internationalisation of London's economy
In 1991, London was only just getting to grips with the reality of being a post‐industrial services economy, but by 2014 it was widely considered a quintessential global economic powerhouse. This chapter tracks the process by which London grew its employment and investment base faster than other advanced global cities. It considers the role that immigration, diversity and pluralism has played in driving trade links and solving skills shortages. London's consolidation as an entrepreneurial, private sector city in light of the financial crisis is also analysed.
