Exploring Human—Computer Interaction in Design Process
Flora Salim and Przemek Jaworski's clusters at Smartgeometry (SG) 2010 and 2011 (co‐organised with Hugo Mulder and Martin Kaftan) introduced the concepts of interaction and physical/digital connections to the SG community. In this chapter, they explain their research approach and possible implications for the creation of new design tools and design workflows. The collaborative design exercise is engaging, informative and hands‐on — enabling better design decisions. This scenario describes our vision for the ‘Parametrics and Physical Interactions’ and ‘Interacting with the City’ clusters that we championed at SG 2010 and SG 2011 respectively. These projects are examples of a new paradigm of design interface, which explores creative dialogue with natural input devices, streams of live data and simulations. These are enveloped in layers of visual and kinetic feedback, which are demonstrated to be a significant enabler for collaborative workspaces.
