This book is the proceedings of an international conference on Ageing Studies and Lifetime Extension of Materials, held in July 1999. Modern-engineered systems are now expected to last longer. Improvements in materials often mean such expectation can be satisfied, but it is important to have confidence that a given material, component or assembly will remain in a reliable, safe, and serviceable condition throughout its expected useful lifetime.
