The origins of this volume lie in a symposium organised by the society of architectural historians of Great Britain (SAHGB) in April 2012, which took twentieth-century performance architecture as its theme. Many of the papers presented on that day reappear in expanded and revides form here, along with several additional chapters that extend the geographical and chronological coverage. There are, of course, many other further contexts and topics that could easily have been added.
