The Evaluation of a Damper Device with High Damping Rubber for Wooden Houses
To adopt damper devices easily to Japanese Post and Beam wooden houses, a new damper device are developed. The mechanism of the new damper device is simple and the manufacturing cost is low. The high damping rubber is used for the damper device. To evaluate the basic performance of a brace with the new developed damper device as well as a brace with a normal fastener, static shear loading tests of a wood frame with the damper braces and normal braces were done. Secondly, shaking table tests were conducted. Finally, time history earthquake response analyses were carried out to evaluate the performance of the brace with the damper device under several earthquakes. Moreover, the seismic response of two-storied wooden house with normal braces and the damper braces was predicted. From these tests and analysis, it was found that the new damper device is effective for Japanese Post and Beam wooden houses.
