Pavement Preventive Maintenance Treatments Performance and Its Effects Evaluation
For many years it was impossible to precisely determine the performance of preventive maintenance treatments and their functional and structural application effects in China. To solve this problem, Guangdong Province has been sponsoring a large scale research project since 2005, which consisted of the construction of 18 testing roads with a total length of 200 km, including Fog Seal, Micro-surfacing, and Ultrathin Friction Course. Through continuous surveying and testing over the past four years, a great amount of testing data has been collected, including information on permeability, skid resistance, roughness, rut depth, and structure strength. Based on the self-developed statistical analytic model of repeated data, it has been found that the applied preventive maintenance treatments have had an obvious effect on the pavements functional performance rehabilitation; but that their effect is limited to the mitigation of semi-rigid asphalt pavement structure strength attenuation. These research results will be of great significance to the technological advancement of pavement preventive maintenance.
