Secondary Stresses in Parallel Wire Suspension Cables
The working stress in a parallel wire cable is normally based on the average stress across a section of the cable. This paper analyzes the variation of stress across the section, caused by deflection of the cable. The influences of clamping bands and of tensioned wire wrapping are considered. Numerical examples show that secondary stresses may be an important part of the effects of live loading.
