Flood Formulas Based on Drainage Basin Characteristics
The determination of the magnitude and frequency of expected floods has been the subject of constant study by the engineering profession. The systematic collection of stream-flow records in every section of the United States has contributed immeasurably to a knowledge of the subject. The long-time records of precipitation assist in extending the frequency studies beyond the range of stream-flow records. Contributing to this knowledge also have been the disastrous floods since 1927, which in many instances exceeded the maximum expected, based on previous records.
