Characteristic Redundants Used for Analyzing Statically Indeterminate Structures
Orthogonal functions are commonly used in the solution of vibration problems. To a lesser degree such functions have been applied to some of the more complicated static analyses, as, for example, to plate analysis and to the determination of beam deflections by trigonometric series. In this paper, forces acting on relatively simple structures are reduced to characteristic forces which are orthogonal, and methods of analysis based on these characteristic forces are discussed.
