The Enlargement and Improvement of the North Sea Canal of Holland (Amsterdam Ship Canal)
The North Sea Canal (also known by the name of “Canal through the narrowest part of Holland”) is the high road of commerce from the North Sea to Amsterdam, and is continued further eastward as far as the Zuyder Zee. A description of the important works, which about twenty years ago Were in course of construction in connection with the digging of this canal, has been given by Brevet Major-General J. G. Barnard, in the “Professional Papers of the Corps of Engineers of the United States Army.”
