Application of the Adaptive CDIO Model in Construction Management Education in China
The conceive-design-implement-operate (CDIO) concept was regarded as a new model for engineering education. Its aims were to develop students' abilities of engineering application to solve their employment problems efficiently. It attempted to change the way of seeking knowledge so as to solve the long-term problem across a century about which was more important between knowledge-induction and ability-development in construction management education. The CDIO model was attempted in several countries over the years. For China, though, it still contains several obstacles to implementation (i.e., the different culture and education environment). This article probes into an adaptive strategies and approaches of personnel training for construction management education, which using the international CDIO model as the basement. Its application could enhance the practical ability of the student and finally diminish the gap of construction management education between China and the developed countries.
