Bridges on the West Virginia Turnpike
The difficult terrain and relatively light total traffic requirements made the designing of structures on the West Virginia Turnpike a somewhat unusual experience. Prior to bond issuance, it was necessary to secure government release of materials and to estimate costs and obtain contractors’ commitments. This paper describes the first project of the West Virginia Turnpike system and is indicative of further extensions of a north-south turnpike route across the eastern states.
