Erection Engineering Analysis for Curved and Skewed Girder Bridges
For the erection of curved and skewed steel girder bridges, the Erection Engineer must be able to predict the bridge displacements, stresses, and stability with reasonable confidence at critical stages of the erection procedure. There are several analysis methods that can be used for the erection engineering analysis of curved and/or skewed steel girder bridges. These analysis methods can be categorized into three levels: 1D, 2D, and 3D. The results of each level of analysis can vary for a given structure, depending on the geometric parameters of the bridge. In this paper, bridge component responses such as girder deflections and stresses are compared for the different levels of analysis for the selected bridges. It is shown, that for some bridges, the levels of analyses predict responses that compare favorably with one another, while in other bridges the predicted responses compare quite unfavorably.
