Estimating Dispersion Coefficients in Estuaries
Estuarine dispersion coefficients have been determined from steady state salinity profiles. The salinity gradients can be determined from profiles at various stages of the tide or may be averaged over time intervals. Without the steady state assumption, the dispersion coefficient DL, can be determined by an equation. One weakness of this equation lies in the determination of ΔC/ΔX, which varies within the tidal cycle. A method is developed herein which reduces this weakness.
