The Effect of Blankets on Seepage through Pervious Foundations
A mathematical analysis of seepage through natural or artificial blankets of relatively impervious soil overlying a pervious foundation is presented in this paper, indicating methods for the application of formulas to the design of earth dams. Since natural foundations rarely if ever approach the simplicity of structure and the uniformity assumed in this analysis, the blanket formulas should not be considered as an accurate means of computing flow conditions, but as an aid to the judgment of the designer.
