Optimization Model for Churchill River Diversion
Optimal project configurations for diverting a river system into another are ascertained through the application of mathematical programming. The physical and hydrologic limitations are described by a system of equations and constraints. All nonlinear functions are transformed into piece-wise linear functions preserving essential nonlinear features. The stochastic nature of the inflow is approximated by a deterministic analysis. Optimization is carried out by applying the Separable Programming algorithm of MPS/360. Results of optimal project configurations are presented.
