Forces from Submerged Jets
Measurements were made of the force produced by a submerged jet, which impinged upon a circular disk. The force was found to depend upon the diameters of the disk and the jet nozzle, the momentum flux of the jet and the position of the disk in the incident flow field. Different equations were required to describe the force of the jet impingement for different geometric configurations of the disk and nozzle. Depending upon the geometric configurations, the force could be determined either by the drag coefficient-Reynolds number relationship for uniform flow past a circular disk; the momentum flux of the jet at the nozzle; or by a stagnation pressure model developed herein.
