Artificial Waterways
The subject of the artificial waterways of the Netherlands is one upon which volumes might be written. Within the limits of this paper it is only possible to give a short description of the three most important waterways: The North Sea Canal, the canal from Ghent to Ter Neuzen, and the Merwede Canal. These have been constructed or improved within the last few years, and connect large cities with the sea or with a foreign country.
