A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
During the past two years the author has made a number of tension tests on bridge members other than eye-bars. These tests, while not exhaustive, are in a channel outside of the usual run, and it is believed that the results obtained furnish information of a kind likely to be of general interest and value. The investigations are divided into six series, A, B, C, D, E and F, of which A, B and C pertain to the strength and value of built-up tension members, D to the net area required back of pin holes in plates having sheared and planed ends, E to the t ensile strength of single angles having ends riveted to connection plates, F to the strength of steel which has been worked partly hot and partly cold. These different series will be discussed in regular order.
