Wind Driven Water Currents
Flow induced in a body of water by wind blowing over the surface is studied in a series of experiments in a laboratory channel. Results are coordinated by dimensional analysis and general principles of turbulent flow. For large Reynolds number, mean and turbulent velocities when related to shear velocity follow an outer law distribution. Effects of vertical and lateral channel contraction are also considered.
