Finite Element Shallow Lake Circulation Analysis
A finite element formulation is given for the analysis of the wind-driven circulation of homogeneous variable-depth shallow lakes. The method of weighted residuals is used to transform the governing differential equation to an integral form which in turn is approximated by linear stream function fields in triangular elements. Numerical results are presented for a rectangular basin and for Lake Ontario.
