The Distribution of Stresses In Mitering Lock-Gates, with Special Reference to the Gates on the Panama Canal
This paper is based on an extended study of the laws which govern the distribution of stresses in different parts of a mitering lock-gate under service conditions. For reasons mentioned in the paper, the problem is indeterminate, so that the solution was based on the theory of elastic work. A general method of computation is first outlined, which is simple in principle, though the computations are somewhat laborious. It is believed to be more complete and accurate than any previously developed.
