My object in calling up the subject at this time is, to endeavor to correct some misapprehensions which seem to have been entertained in some quarters as to the position occupied by me in relation to this branch of the engineering profession. Mr. Linville has also, according to Mr. Macdonald's diagram, given his diagonals a greater inclination than 45° from the vertical, a favorable modification, which has also been used by me for many years.
