Routine Health Monitoring of a Long-Span Suspension Bridge Based on Strong Motion Monitoring System
It is known that long-span suspension bridges play an important role in the lifeline engineering construction, and real time monitoring of the health condition of bridges are needed to ensure the safety of bridge structures. To this end, a strong motion monitoring system has been set up on a suspension bridge with a main span of 1108 m in 2012, and this system has recorded plenty of real time ambient vibration data since then. In present paper, the strong motion monitoring system of this long-span suspension bridge is introduced at first. Then the history signals from 2013 to 2014 are extracted to conduct the modal analysis. In addition, a structural damage index deduced from the covariance of the covariance matrix of acceleration is used to evaluate the health condition of the bridge. Results of the analyses indicate that the strong motion monitoring system on the bridge has being effective and stable since 2012, and the real-time ambient vibration records are helpful to estimate the operating state of the bridge.
