Simulation of an Earth Embankment Dam in Adverse Rainy Weather
Simulating a dam construction is an effective method for planning and resource management at the pre-construction stage especially in an environment with adverse rainfall. A dam body can either be concrete gravity dam or earth fill dam or it may include both. This work focuses on the construction of the embankment that can either be part of a dam or the whole dam. A simulation model is established to predict the construction duration of an embankment dam in a rainy environment at different confidence levels of precipitation given certain available resources. Initially, a rain forecast model was built to predict the expected precipitation for the upcoming years using Easyfit software and rainfall dataset collected from NASA for a specific location for years from 1995 to 2019. The simulation software used is Anylogic where the forecast rain model is inputted to the simulation model to study the impact of the precipitation given different confidence levels. The model result shows a direct relationship between the confidence level and the estimated construction duration.
