Foundation Engineering of Offshore "Jacket" Structures
"Jackets" are marine structures commonly utilized in civil — offshore construction practice. Foundation engineering of jackets requires exceptional design and construction skills to cope with adverse geotechnical conditions and extreme operational and environmental loads. A synopsis of deep foundation design and practice employed in jacket engineering is summarized in this paper. A case study is presented involving jackets founded on piles, in which the proposed permanent "mudmats" and ground improvement, required for the temporary support of the jackets, were replaced during construction by temporary reusable brackets and piles.
