Soil Deep Mixing by Small Equipment
Measures to improve the mechanical strength and hydraulic properties of soils are frequently used as an alternative to expensive structural foundation retrofitting in construction sites with poor ground conditions, in order to reduce settlements in compressible soils, to increase the soil shear strength, etc. Among the different available treatments, the columnar are certainly the most popular ones and,in particular,jet grouting, vibrocompaction and deep mixing. The latter (DMM) results particularly interesting: it is usually performed by mixing the soil with lime or cement in dry or wet conditions. One of the limitations of these techniques is the need to operate with bulky equipment which prevents their use in highly urbanized areas or in particular structural foundation retrofitting. To overcome them, new small- and high-execution speed equipment has been recently developed.
