Mineraliniai milteliai skaldos ir mastikos asfalto mišiniuose ; Mineral fillers in stone and mastic asphalt mixtures
Notwithstanding mineral filler (particles ≤0.063 mm) in asphalt mixtures constitutes only up to 10% of all aggregates, it plays a major role in asphalt mixture performance. The previously conducted studies in other countries show that performance of asphalt mixture depends on both amount and properties of mineral filler. Consequently, a public limited liability company “Naujasis kalcitas” initiated a research on the effect of five different mineral fillers, which are typically used in Lithuania, on the performance of stone and mastic asphalt (SMA) mixture. It was conducted by Road Research Institute of Vilnius Gediminas technical university. In this study was analysed mineral fillers made of limestone, granite and dolomite. Mineral fillers made of limestone were both activated and non-activated and dolomite mineral fillers were manufactured by two producers. 7% of mineral filler was used to produce stone and mastic asphalt mixtures (SMA 8 S) independently of filler type. Summarizing the results of the study, the researchers emphasized that the type of mineral filler, except activated limestone mineral filler, has no significant effect on the performance of the SMA 8 S mixture. Meanwhile, the application of activated limestone mineral filler in the production of asphalt mixtures for the asphalt wearing course is promising and would lead to exceptional water resistance and stiffness, which significantly contributes to the durability of the pavement structure.
