Growth, stagnation and shrinkage lead to increasing complexity within suburban city regions. Hence, urban and regional planning require further spatial information on these heterogeneous processes. The proposed method allows to derive small scale indicators describing housing supply and demand, while covering a functional region. As a result, a classification of suburban areas regarding their phases of development enables to identify transitions and subsequent potentials for suburban renewal.
