The main master thesis aim is to analyze brick mortar properties in bed joint and experimentally investigate bed joint influence to masonry compressive strength and deformations. Bed joint mortar mechanical properties are greatly different from mortar properties determined by testing standard specimens, consequently when masonry buildings are reconstructed it is very important to correctly examine masonry like composite material bearing load capacity. By applying short term loads standard mortar specimens are examined, mechanical and deformational properties of mortar are investigated. By applying short term static load calcium silicate masonry prisms are tested. In this thesis mortar modulus of elasticity and bearing load results are gained by testing standard specimens. Properties that makes vast difference to mechanical properties of masonry are examined. Experimentally determined masonry bearing load and modulus of elasticity results are compared with results that are calculated using analytical methods. Thesis consists of 4 sections in which masonry stress-strain state and mortar properties that makes influence to mechanical properties of masonry are reviewed, experimental mortar and masonry tests are performed, analytical calculation methods are examined and graphical results are provided. Thesis contains of 72 pages (appendix excluded), 60 figures, 12 tables, 32 literature references.
