Nach rund neunjähriger Bauzeit nimmt in diesem Sommer die neue Ring-U-Bahn „Cityringen“ in Kopenhagen ihren Betrieb auf. Mit dem 15,5 km langen Ringtunnel und zwei noch fertigzustellenden Stichstrecken Richtung Nord- und Südhafen erweitert die dänische Hauptstadt ihr Metronetz auf fast die doppelte Länge. Kein Bewohner der Stadt wird künftig weiter als 600 m von einer Metro- oder S-Bahn-Haltestelle entfernt wohnen. Insgesamt 17 Haltepunkte reihen sich entlang der Ringstrecke auf, die wie schon die bestehenden U-Bahn-Strecken von führerlosen Zügen bedient werden wird.
The “Cityringen” or Circle City Line, Copenhagen’s new metro loop, is about to enter operation this summer after around nine years of construction. With the 15.5 km long tunnel and two still to be completed branch lines to the north and south harbours, the Danish capital is extending its metro network to almost double its present length. No inhabitant of the city will then live more than 600 m from a metro or surface light railway station. A total of 17 stations populate the circular route, which like the existing metro lines operate with driverless trains.
