Periodic response of general yielding structure
General nonlinear hysteretic force-deflection relation for one degree-of-freedom structure is continuous, smooth function and describes yielding behavior varying between limits of linear and elastic-plastic cases; steady-state response to sinusoidal excitation of structure having these properties is investigated, and resonant amplitude and frequency response curves obtained; typical family of these curves is verified by numerical integration of equation of motion; equivalent viscous damping factor for general structure is determined; comparison of dynamic test results to analytical results can furnish approximations to dynamic force-deflection relations of many real structures.
