Preventive measures to reduce frost action on highways in Finland
Methods used to diminish or prevent detrimental effects of frost are described; leveling of nonuniform frost heaving by using wedges on border of rock cuts, where embankments and cuts meet, where soil changes, and between both sides of culverts; absorption of groundwater table into base course was prevented by using insulating course, lowering groundwater table deep drainage, ditching of road, or by chemical stabilization.
