The rate of hydration of cement clinker
Storage in water at 70 deg. fahr. resulted in hydration of layer of typical portland-cement clinker to average depth of one-half micron in 24 hr., 1.7 in 7 days, 3.5 in 28, and about 5 microns in 90 days, in presence of calcium sulphate; in absence of calcium sulphate, penetration appears to be somewhat greater; greater apparent hydration of white portland cement is explained by larger surface area due to greater irregularity in shape. (See also Am. Soc. Testing Matls. -- Advance Paper no. 60, June 24-28, 1929 11 pp., 4 figs.)
