Bhadra hydro electric project
Gravity type main dam is 1445 ft long and 194 ft high; depth of storage is 186 ft; height of dam at maximum section above deepest foundation is 235 ft; dam is constructed of stone masonry in surki mortar of 11 to 4 proportion; overflow spillway is located in main course of river and is designed for maximum flood discharge of nearly 1,200,000 cusecs; fixed capacity is based on submersion considerations and generation of minimum firm power of 25,000 kw at 60% load factor all through year; turbines used both for Right Bank units and river bed units are vertical shaft Kaplan turbines with elbow type draft tubes.
