Pennine tower restaurant-forton-M.6 motorway (Great Britain)
Roadway service station layout is described, with emphasis on tower that houses restaurant with excellent view from first level of 18.90 m, and glass fronted sun lounge or promenade 4 m above restaurant; in "stalk" of this landmark, are elevators, spiral escape stair, and utility services for restaurant; design and erection problems, due to hexagonal form of tower, are discussed; welded steel frame, co-opting its concrete casing and decking as far as practicable, was adopted to meet difficult functional requirements; foundations, construction, fabrication and erection of structure are described.
