Effective radiant field and operative temperature necessary for comfort with radiant heating
New hypothetical variable effective radiant field (ERF) is defined as radiant heat exchanged by occupant with his surrounding environment when his black-body surface (skin or clothing) temperature is hypothetically equal to ambient air temperature; comfort equation is derived that is useful for estimating and predicting comfort and physiological changes caused by radiant heat; approach is presented to direct measurement of operative temperature by use of simple globe-shaped physical instrument.
