Stadium puzzle precast in jiffy
San Diego, Calif, 50,000 seat stadium consists of 1715 precast concrete elements; elements form six circular entrance ramps, outside railings for upper stadium levels, beams, columns, and walls for clubhouse and perimeter buildings and light ring around top of stadium bowl; specially designed concrete mix consists of regular portland cement with high early pozzolan additive which permits lifting of panels with strength of 1500 psi one day after casting; larger panels, weighing 1/3 to 39 tons are cured for two to three days; because of heavy loading and unusual soil conditions, structure is supported by 1500 steel piles 40 to 60 ft long.
