Present knowledge of sedimentation in urban environment
Most important impact of urbanization is during period of construction, when yield may increase many-fold; amount of increase probably is most closely related to local construction practices; change in peakedness of runoff from urbanized areas may induce longer term, but still transient, condition during which natural, unlined channels adjust their dimensions to new regimen of flow; construction of highways, both in and between urban areas contributes to sediment yield.
