Construction of underwater tunnel in Cairo
Illustrated report on construction of 470 m long reinforced concrete sewer tunnel under Nile River; nine tunnel sections, 42 to 56 m long with 3.20 m ID were precast and prestressed in casting yard, temporarily sealed, floated into position, submerged by flooding into suction-dredged channel, aligned, sealed and channel backfilled; tunnel has two steel pressure sewer pipes with closing device, walkways, and is ventilated; work procedure, dictated by Nile water levels, and auxiliary installations are described.
