Construction of underwater tunnel in Cairo (Egypt)
464 m long reinforced concrete tunnel with 3.20 m ID and 3.75 m OD was laid at depth of 7.5 m to constitute river crossing for two 1.20 m diam steel water pipes; 600ton 55 m long tunnel sections were assembled from prefabricated 5-m concrete sections; after mounting of steel pipes inside section and watertight closing of both ends, section was floated into position and lowered into ditch previously excavated in river bottom.
