Measurement of salt pillar movement
Observations of convergence were conducted through use of convergence gage that consisted of two pieces of concentric tubing; one of these pieces of tubing was bolted to roof while other was bolted to floor; this gave measure of total movement including any separation or parting of laminae in floor and roof; work with stratascope indicated that amount of separation in bedding planes overlying mine roofs was major contribution to total apparent movement; expansion is measured by dilation pins.
