Roof pressure and stress distribution on walls of rock cavity is investigated; review is made of various analytical and experimental methods for determining bearing capacity of rock formations; various mechanical models of rock behavior and corresponding equations of state are discussed, assuming that rock is represented by Hooke-, Newton-, or St. Venant-type body or their combinations.
