Spillway and navigation conditions, holt lock and dam, Warrior river, Alabama
Hydraulic model investigations reported were concerned with navigation conditions in lock approaches, performance of spillway, feasibility of lock culvert intakes and outlets on riverside of riverward lock wall, and flows through first and second construction stage diversion channels; tests were conducted on 1 to 80-scale general model and 1 to 36-scale section model; model tests indicated reasonable weir and pier contraction discharge coefficients but excessive losses at abutments and submergence effect of tailwater; losses at abutments were reduced by modifications of end piers; feasibility of lock culverts' intake and discharge systems was verified.
