Report on symposium, "Plastic-Fire-Corrosion", held in Stockholm on 24th April, 1969 discussed secondary corrosion damages in fires involving PVC; misunderstandings within this field arise from fact that plastic may include many different materials with quite different properties with regard to, for instance, fire; PVC, which gives off hydrochloric acid when it is sufficiently heated, is in fact self-extinguishing material; research and development work is presently undertaken to find out ways of minimizing corrosion damage, representing about 1% of total value of fire damages.
